My name is Margarita Warren. I have lived in the Jacksonville area for a majority of my life. I have a Bachelors in Social Work from Campbellsville University, located in Kentucky.
After graduating with my degree in 2002, I began working as a case manager for adults with mental health disabilities. In 2006, I came to the ILRC of Northeast Florida as the High School/High Tech Coordinator for St.Johns and Clay Counties. The High School/High Tech program services youth with disabilities from the age of 14 to 22 in transitioning to a post secondary education and/or career. Since beginning with the ILRC four years ago, I have been promoted to the Director of Youth Services and Nursing Home Transition working with all person with disabilities regardless of age. I enjoy the hands on opportunities provided to me by the ILRC of Northeast Florida in working with both youth and adults in becoming independent.
I have recently become a mentor for the new youth program at the ILRC called "Ready to Achieve Mentoring Program." This allows me the opportunity to touch a youth when it counts, before they reach adulthood and helping them meeting their own personal goals. This is done through structured group activities and on an individual level.
In my own life I have been touched by persons with disabilities, as I assist my mother in caring for my 11month old brother who has spina bifida. He encourages me to advocate independence not only for today but for the tomorrow. My dream for him is to live a full, healthy, productive and independent life. He is a reminder that every person with disabilities touched today is an advocate for tomorrow.
I look forward to seeing what new people and partners I meet while working at the ILRC of Northeast, while continuing to develop advocating skills and new programs to assist persons with disabilities in meeting there goals.
