Project with Industries

Project with Industries, or PWI, is a program offered through the ILRC of Northeast Florida.  The PWI program is offered to adults with disabilities who are at least 18 years or older, who have been unemployed for at least 6 months, and are not currently participating in a job placement program.

The PWI program is designed to provide adults with disabilities an opportunity to work with an Employment Specialist who will assess their strengths, work experience and training and assist them in discovering a career path that best suits their needs.

Eligible participants will be enrolled into the PWI program. Once enrolled, they will participate in a six-week employment readiness course.  This course focuses on self-advocacy, disclosing your disability to an employer, money management, understanding job accommodations, job modifications, assistive technology, and effective communication.  Additional subjects include translating skills into job objectives, and using Microsoft applications to increase employability.

Individualized job development and placement is based upon each person’s strengths, skills, abilities, and self-determination.  Once an individual gains employment, he or she will receive a job coach on a short term basis, to receive assistance and guidance during job training.

All PWI participants will have an opportunity to join the ILRC job club, which provides career related information and resources to participants, networking advantages, and an opportunity to meet local business leaders in the community.

In addition, participants will have access to a job database of at least 100 employment opportunities, which lists the knowledge, skills, and abilities for each job posted.
