High School/High Tech Program

High School/High Tech is a transition program for students with disabilities who are in the 9th through 12th grade on a standard or special track diploma.  This program allows students to explore high tech careers as well as their own career interest to prepare them for post-secondary education or a career. 

The High School High Tech programs are located as follows:

  • Baker County High School/High Tech program is in Baker County High School.
  • Clay County High School/High Tech
  • Duval County High School/High Tech
  • Nassau County High School/High Tech program is currently located at Fernandina Beach High School.
  • St. Johns County High School/High Tech

High School/High Tech uses five design features to provide activities to the students:

  • School Based Preparatory Experiences which connect students to their education and exiting high school.  This doesn’t make sense – not sure what you mean.

Speakers

Career Assessments

Setting individual goals

  • Career Preparation and Work-Based Learning Experiences which form and develop students’ aspirations and help them make informed decisions about their career.

Job Shadowing

Internships

Work readiness skill development.

  • Youth Development and Leadership which assist students in meeting the challenges of adolescence and adulthood.

Mentoring (peer to peer and adult

Self-advocacy Training

Community Service/volunteerism/service learning

Exposure to disability history/culture right and responsibilities.

  • Connecting Activities which link students to programs, services, activities and supports to transition after school.  Agencies may provide:

Post Program Supports

Transportation

Tutoring

Assistive Technology

Community Orientation/mobility training

Financial Planning

  • Family Involvement and Supports which encourage parent/family involvement to promote the students’ growth post school providing:

Educational/resource information

Participating in appropriate program activities, including Individual Educational Plans.
